Dr Nora Yao, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Auckland came to present prizes to five students who achieved places in the 5th New Zealand Chinese Essay Competition. The competition is open to students at New Zealand secondary schools and tertiary institutions who are non-native speakers of Chinese. Dr Yao spoke to all students in Mrs Liang’s Year 11 Chinese class congratulating them on studying Chinese and reminding them that speaking English and Chinese means they can communicate with 50% of the world’s population— a useful ability which will stand them in good stead, whatever they choose to do in the future.

The prize winners from AIC were Carlene Kim, Year 11—first prize, Ji Young Kim; Year 13 and Joann Lee Year 12—second prize; Jason Feng, Year 12 and Jia Wen Choo, Year 13—fourth prize.  Congratulations to all prize winners and their teachers.
