The 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from the 17th to the 24th of July 2012. Beforehand, the New Zealand team had training camps both in Auckland and on an island off the coast of The Netherlands with the Dutch team. The actual competition was held over 2 days with 3 problems each day.

Four AIC students attended the annual Auckland Chinese Speech contest on Saturday 14th May.  It was a keen competition with the top Chinese-learning students from Auckland secondary schools and our students achieved remarkably: Ji Young Kim won the 2nd prize. Jiawen Choo won the 1st prize. Joann Lee & Jason Fong won the Premier awards and will represent Auckland at the National Chinese Speech Contest in Wellington.

The Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award is run by Zonta Club of Auckland which is a member of Zonta International, a body whose aim it is to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.  The YWPA Award honours young women in secondary level or pre-university schools, who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organisations.  The winner this year was Fatumata Bah, Year 11, who has been automatically entered in to the International Award selection round.

Jack Zhou has been officially selected for the 2011 New Zealand Team that will be competing at the International Biology Olympiad in Taipei this year. He is one of four students chosen for  the team out of the 19 who made it to the training selection camp that both Jack and Bill Chen attended in the recent holidays. This is the second time Jack has been selected for  the team after competing and representing New Zealand in Korea last year where he received a Bronze award.

Arun Shanmuganathan has been officially selected for the International Mathematical Olympiad team to go to Amsterdam, Netherlands this year. The Netherlands is hosting the 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad from 16 to 24 July 2011. The IMO is the largest and oldest Olympiad for the exact sciences and Holland will be receiving over six hundred talented young mathematicians from across the globe

2010: Julia Wu, Year 13 was selected as a member of the New Zealand team to participate in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, 14 - 26 August for table tennis.
