Notable Achievements

Year 12 student and Head Girl Crystal Xie has won the New Zealand division of the RotoArt International High School Student Art Contest. Painting in oil for the first time, Crystal says her painting was inspired by New Zealand's Maori name Aotearoa. "The woman is a personification of the astounding beauty that is New Zealand. Like a giant, she stands in the ocean with pride and serenity".

Crystal wins NZ$1,000 plus a 21 day return trip to the USA as a guest of the Rotary Clubs of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC.

Congratulations to Hailie Xie, Carolyn Zou, Roger Rao and Johnson Li for their commitment to the millennium development goal of improving environmental sustainability.

Their winning carpooling project aims to establish a website which matches people living in the same areas travelling to the same destinations.

Congratulations to the four AIC graduates, Natalie Kim, Penelope Yan, Michelle Lee and Alex Simmonds, all accepted for Harvard Law School. Natalie graduated from Princeton, Penelope and Alex from Columbia and Michelle attended Stanford University, reflecting the global pathways AIC students take.

Once again an AIC student has been selected as a member of the NZ Maths Olympiad team. Vincent Qi, a Year 12 student, has been selected and will travel to the 2013 International Mathematical Olympiad in Santa Marta, Colombia in July. In previous years AIC students have brought back medals from this competition.

As the graduating class of 2013 are preparing to sit their final IB Diploma examinations in May, AIC is delighted to announce that offers of place have started to come in from leading universities all over the world. So far offers have been received from Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Pennsylvania, John Hopkins University, the University of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon University to name just a few.
